Visit of the Director General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in Prague

The director general of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (DG OPCW) based in Hague, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, visited the Czech Republic upon the invitation of the Czech minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Lubomír Zaorálek in the period from 15th to 17th February 2015.

During his stay, the director general visited among others the National Institute for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Protection in Příbram – Kamenná. Besides the visit at the premises of the Institute, he received specialised presentations from the representatives of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SONS) and the Institute. The SONS, as the Czech National Authority for the prohibition of chemical weapons, informed the Director General about the implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in the Czech Republic. The Institute presented itself as a modern, complex facility for the technical support of the weapons of mass destruction non-proliferation, with a high potential for training activities, as well. Next to the director general, the institute was visited by the representatives of the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit continued with meetings with Czech representatives at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by the Director General’s lecture on “What made the OPCW successful” which was organised by the Ministry in cooperation with the Institute of International Relations.

The visit was concluded by meeting of the Director General with the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the interview with Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü for the Czech Television.
