Bilateral Meeting of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies of the Czech Republic and Austria

27th regular bilateral meeting of representatives of the Czech Republic and Austria was held on 5 and 6 November 2018 in Prague.  The delegations discussed primarily issues related to Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection. The meeting was organized in the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Austria to Settle Issues of Common Interest in Connection with Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection.

  

The meeting was chaired by the Head of the Czech Delegation, Mr. Petr Krs, the Deputy Chairman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB). The Austrian delegation was led by Ms. Ulrike Hartmann from the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. The meeting was also attended by other representatives of ministries, institutions and others experts from both sides.

The delegations informed each other of the latest development in legislation, emergency preparedness and response and in the operation of nuclear facilities. The Czech delegation presented, among others, the updated National Radioactive Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel Management Concept and the situation in the field of repositories of radioactive materials in the Czech Republic. The Austrian delegation presented, inter alia, assessment of the IRRS mission which took place in 2018.

The meeting was concluded by the visit at the research reactor VR-1 at the Technical University in Prague. The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere, accompanied by a lively discussion.
