Assistance in the preparation of specialists in the field of protection against chemical weapons

The State Office for Nuclear Safety, the Population Protection Institute Lázně Bohdaneč and the OPCW co-organised an Advanced Practical Training Course on Assistance and Protection against chemical weapons from 19 to 23 May 2014 in Lázně Bohdaneč for 15 participants from 14 State Parties of the Chemical Weapons Convention (Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, Ecuador, Jordan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Romania, Tanzania, and Turkey).

 

The course covered the planning, preparation, conduct and evaluation of response operations in contaminated areas; appropriate responses and countermeasures in the event of incidents involving chemical weapons or toxic industrial chemicals (TICs); and an advanced component on complex emergency responses to a crisis. Participants also received advanced instruction in detection and reconnaissance, decontamination, the use of individual protective equipment, the medical aspects of a response, and response management.
