The new Atomic Act is adopted

The new Atomic Act has been published in the Collection of Laws as Act No. 263/2016 Coll. and distributed on 10th August 2016. New legal framework in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy and ionizing radiation has been completed by the Act No. 264/2016 Coll., Amending Certain Acts in Relation to the Adoption of the Atomic Act. Both acts came into force through publication and will come into effect on 1st January 2017.

New Atomic Act will replace the current Act No. 18/1997 Coll., On Peaceful Utilization of Nuclear Energy and Ionizing Radiation (Atomic Act). The new Atomic Act enhances both form and content of the 19 years old legislation in this field and brings a number of new features aiming to increase the level of protection against harmful effects of nuclear energy and ionizing radiation. The new legislation transposes the latest Euratom norms and standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Atomic Act will be followed by set of implementing regulations.
