New State Party of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons

Myanmar became the 191st State Party of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Although Myanmar was among the first signatory states, its parliament ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention this year, and it deposited its ratification documents with the UN on 8th July 2015. After 30 days, the CWC entered into force for Myanmar, raising its membership to 191 States Parties of the CWC.

Outside the OPCW still remain 5 states – Angola, South Sudan, Egypt, North Korea and Israel. Angola and South Sudan are recently working on joining the CWC. Israel signed the CWC in 1993, but it still has not ratified it.
