Bilateral Meeting of Nuclear Regulatory Bodies of the Czech Republic and Poland

A bilateral meeting of representatives of the Czech and Polish nuclear regulatory bodies was held on 5 - 6 June 2019 in Wroclawv. The meeting was organized in the framework of the Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Poland on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident and on Exchange of Information on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection.

The Czech delegation was led by the Chairperson of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB) Ms. Dana Drábová, Mr. Andrzej Prybycin, the Acting President of National Atomic Energy Agency (PAA) led the Polish delegation.

Both delegations presented the latest developments in the field of regulation of peaceful use of nuclear energy including legislation.  Attention was devoted, among others, to responsibilities and activities of regulatory bodies concerning licensing in the area of nuclear safety, authorization process for new nuclear sources and supervision and inspection of operation of NPPs Temelín and Dukovany as well as nuclear research reactors. Extensive discussion was dedicated to nuclear safety culture assessment, functioning of technical support organizations (TSOs) and software designed to evaluate and calculate radiological impacts in case of a nuclear/radiological accident and to prepare prognosis of occurrence of emergencies in nuclear power plants, supporting decision-making process concerning appropriate protective measures.
