Bilateral meeting on nuclear safety issues between representatives of the Czech Republic and Austria

25th regular bilateral meeting of representatives of Czech and Austria institutions was held in period of 7-8 November 2016 in Mikulov.  The meeting was organized based on Agreement between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Austria and to settle Issues of Common Interest in connection with Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection.

The Czech delegation led by the Deputy Chairman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB) Mr. Petr Krs, consisted SÚJB experts, representatives of ministries (Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic), the Czech Embassy in Vienna, operator of NPPs (ČEZ), SÚRAO and Special Envoy for Nuclear Energy. The Austria delegation led by the Head of Energy Unit of the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs Mrs. Ulrike Hartmann consisted representatives of federal ministries (Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water; Ministry of Science Research and Economy; Ministry of the Interior); of provincial governments and other institutions and the Austria Embassy in Prague.

Both delegations presented the latest development of legislation and associated administration. The Czech side informed about the role of the Special Envoy for Nuclear Energy and implementation of the National Action Plan for the Development of Nuclear Energy. Furthermore both sides presented reports concerning operation of NPPs, radioactive waste management and spent fuel storage, radiation protection and emergency preparedness and response. Mentioned were issues of uranium mines in the future and the exercise which took place in NPP Dukovany. The meeting was held in a friendly, opened atmosphere and traditionally accompanied by lively discussion.
