The regular components

The regular components of the monitoring network are as follows:

  1. the early warning network which is composed of a system of monitoring points in the territory of the Czech Republic which perform continuous measurement of dose rates and immediate information about a possible increase of dose rate above the normal value; a part of the early warning network is a teledosimetric system which includes the equipment for systematic and continuous measurements of doses, dose rates, radionuclide concentrations and their time integrals at the site of a nuclear installation to record and evaluate releases to the atmosphere and watercourses during any radiological emergency or a suspicion on radiological emergency;
  2. the thermo luminescent dosimeter network, which is a system for gamma dose measurements in the territory of the Czech Republic;
  3. air contamination monitoring points which are provided with the equipment for dose rate measurements, aerosol and fallout sampling, and simple radionuclide concentration evaluation in these samples;
  4. foodstuffs contamination monitoring points which are provided with the equipment to determine the radionuclide concentrations in food chains and radionuclide concentration evaluation in these samples;
  5. water contamination monitoring points which are provided with the equipment to take the samples of water, river sediments and fishes and to evaluate the radionuclide concentration in these samples
  6. monitoring points at the border crossings which are provided with the equipment to collect the data on radionuclide contamination of the individuals, means of transport, goods, subjects and materials on border crossings;
  7. mobile groups which monitor doses, dose rates and radionuclide concentrations in the field, take the environmental samples, and distribute and replace dosimeters in the thermoluminescent dosimeter networks;
  8. airborne groups which monitor doses, dose rates and radionuclide concentrations in the field;
  9. laboratory groups that take the environmental samples, perform spectrometric and/or radiochemical analyses of the environmental samples for the purpose of determining radionuclide concentrations in these samples;
  10. central monitoring network laboratory which coordinates the measurements of the samples collected by both laboratory and mobile groups and ensures the special sample measurements, and furthermore, it evaluates the measurement results to provide the basis for making decisions on the countermeasures leading to reduction or averting  the exposure of persons, and which also coordinates and performs the measurements of internal contamination of persons; and
  11. Meteorological service that collects the meteorological data which is necessary for making the evaluation and the prognosis of the radiation situation development by using the atmospheric radionuclide release models.
