Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons Prohibition

SÚJB is the government department responsible for guaranteeing of assignments resulting from the Bacteriological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC, website). The SÚJB carries out function of the National Authority over some measures related to the bacteriological (biological) and toxin weapons prohibition in accordance with the Act No. 281/2002 Coll. (Biological Act). All SÚJB activities in area of prohibiton of biological and toxin weapons are coordinated with activities of other governmental departments and in respect of the European Union Strategy against the NBC non-proliferation.

Controlling of the bacteriological (biological) and toxin weapons prohibition includes prevention to possible bioterrorist acts, control of handling.with highly dangerous and dangerous biological agents and toxins, evidence of producing plants, laboratories etc. It involves:

  • incorporation of international requirements resulting from the BTWC and the Australian Group memberships to the Czech law system;
  • executing of national inspections;
  • evidence of handling with dangerous biological agents and toxins;
  • issuing of licences enabling handling with highly dangerous biological agents and toxins.

SÚJB experts also take part in the international control activities like Australian Group. They perform an important part in international security measures related to the prevention of the NBC non-proliferation.
